Golds smacks warning to Holmesdale

Vine captain, Bob Golds thrashed a scintilating century and then took five wickets against his club's local rivals, Holmesdale at Montreal Park on Sunday.

He was playing for Sevenoaks Sunday side, Knockers, when he really clicked into top gear with a performance which very nearly brought the side what would have been a notable victory.

Knockers made 256-5 and only a stubborn reargaurd action by quick bowlers Snowy Whitehead and Richard Scott staved off defeat for the Montreal Park team who finished on 180-9.

The visitors were soon in dire trouble when they lost both Hornsby and Hutton for nought. Golds and Sims saw the innings into safer water before Sims was out to a catch by hodge off Cruttenden for 43.

Golds batted on, reaching his century with a six over ectra cover off Cruttenden. Dick Bates gave him admirable support and the total raced past the 200 mark.

The Vine skipper was eventualy caught by Vizzard off Dayer-Smith for 141, bat at the declaration, Bates was still there with 58.

Ken Vizzard (22) and Norman Hodge (59) started slowly for Holmesdale but Cruttenden added a very quick 33, looking as though he was going to pile on the runs.

Cruttenden fell to a ctach by Bates and he was quickly followed by Kemp and Hodge. Eventually it was left to a patient innings of 17 n.o. by number nine, Whitehead and 19 by Scott, to stave off defeat for the home side. Bob Golds completed a memorable day for himself by taking 5-23 in eight overs.
