Clark Trophy vs Wrotham Thursday 15th June 2000
Winning the toss and batting first, Botting and Boreham got
Knockers off to a solid start until Botting was run out for 30
with the score on 36 after 6 overs. L. Spencer-Allen (40) came in
and started striking the ball cleanly and he and Boreham(22)
started to accelerate the run rate even more until Boreham was
hit in the foot and was forced to retire. This brought Richardson
to the crease who hit 15 off 5 balls to end the innings on 117-1
off the 14 overs
The Wrotham reply started quickly too with them on or above
the run rate. The bowlers were being punished with the small
boundaries as Darry(4-3-35) and Cowan(2-0-16) opened the bowling.
Spencer-Allen(4-3-20) bowled in 3 spells and proved the most
economical. Petters(2-0-16) and Richardson both bowled 2 overs,
Richardson being particularly unlucky with some wide decisions
going for 26 off his 2 overs(including 6 wides). The last over
arrived with Wrotham needing 6 to win. Spencer-Allen was on to
bowl, a dot ball first then second ball shovelled for 2 on the
leg side. The third ball the batsman was bowled. The next ball
was a fiasco where the ball went straight to Ken Cowan and the
run out was on until Sp-Allen failed to hold onto the ball and
missed an easy run out giving them a run. The next ball was
another wicket with the batsman being bowled. This left them
needing 2 off the last ball. They scrambled a single to Smith who
gathered the ball in and took it up to the stumps and prevented
them from taking another run. the game ended in a draw with
Knockers going through having lost less wickets |
