Knockers' twelve match unbeaten run juddered to a halt at Sissinghurst with a low score getting picked off by Chiraj's half century as a decent effort with the ball couldn't see 90 defended. Ted Marsh got a handy 37 and Ollie Marsh bagged 2-15 taking him to fifty wickets for Knockers.
Several batsmen got good starts but only Ted went on to contribute as a series of iffy shots provided fielding practice for the home side. Keen's one handed low dive to end Ted's efforts being the one 'fair enough' moment. Other highlights came from Duke's immensely impressive shadow batting, David Bowen's debut and John Mitchell getting called back after getting stumped while going gardening during play.
Tea was superb, the fielding drills excellent, the Captain's speech fortifying.
We knew we might just defend it. Anton and Ollie opened and put Sissinghurst's openers through it, pegging them back to 21-3. We looked a proper outfit for a good twenty minutes until Chiraj swung hard and well to take them home despite providing chances to second slip (when we only had a first and third) and an extremely difficult c&b for Marsh to very nearly complete. No other batsman got into double figures as Knockers something of a game of it. Heads were lowered in the changing room more in resolve to do better next time than anything else and a pint of Harveys in the hot (very) early evening sun quickly brought the smiles back, especially with Snellers' Yasser Arafat impression. On to Linton Park.
