Win :: Played on Thursday 5th July 2001
After a night of little sleep thanks to a massive thunderstorm, the Knockers set off to the Christchurch cricket ground where we were to play another touring team, Seaford CC. The wicket and outfield were surprisingly little affected by the nights activities and it was a loss of the toss which saw the Knockers fielding. L Spencer-Allen opened the bowling along with Seldon and held a very straight line with some pace to restrict the run rate. Spencer-Allen took a couple of wickets the highlight of which being a great slip catch by guest for the day Ian Linstead. The fielding then went slightly pear shaped as the batsmen took advantage of the gift bowling and started making quick runs. The actual fielding became attrocious and the over rate was at an all time low not helped by the big ditches around the field which served to lose many balls falling in to them. Their innings finished on 197-3 dec.
An excellent tea later (which was mostly stolen by the opposition) we took to the field again to bat Seldon and Lee opening. Lee fell with the score on 7 to be replaced by the short lived L S-Allen who was removed first ball by a very good short leg catch. Linstead was brought to the crease and along with Seldon put on 82 for the third wicket. Linstead was caught and bowled with a leading edge. The in form C S-Allen then started scoring freely and with only the loss of Seldon(57), Boreham for a well hit 25, and Howe for an omnipresent 0, S-Allen guided the team to victory with 3 overs to spare making a well deserved 64 not out. Smith made 1 not out at the other end.
A good victory to show the opposition that we were much better than them and that they didn't understand our style of cricket. oh well we showed them. A few beers later in the clubhouse presented some amusement but this is not the time or the place to discuss that - see the social report.
