Win :: Played on Sunday 11th July 2004
A club record partnership of 209 between Oli boreham and Stuart Seldon was the highlight of Knockers win against Hurst Green on Sunday. Batting first on a cloudy day, Knockers were reduced to 30-3 by the Hurst Green opening attack in difficult conditions. This brought Boreham and Seldon to the crease and they steadied the ship initially before accelerating the score foreward.
Boreham scored quicker, peppering the leg side with 'Lara-esk' strokes and then classy drives through the off-side field, choosing his shots carefully before he was eventually run out for 109 to a dodgy decision. While Seldon (103*), playing his first game since breaking his leg, brought up his hundred from the last ball of the innings, after batting with typical Seldon grace not offering any chances to the opposition. Knockers finished on 263-5.
3 Wickets apiece from Edward Darry (3-67) and Dan Turner (3-32). The young Darry finding turn in the pitch decieved the opposition batsman with some excellent deliveries, taking two wickets in two balls and a further lbw to claim the win. Turner finishing with fine figures 3 for 32 from his ten overs assisted the young Darry intimidating the batsman with pace and bounce. An excellent catch from debutant Andy Cole at deep point and a fine reaction catch from Corin Spencer Allen at square leg, enabled Knockers to bowl Hurst Green out for 160 for a satisfying first win of the season.
