Lose :: Played on Sunday 17th July 2005
A sizeable defeat for Knockers in this 35 over match was not without some good performances and some commendable cricket. Knockers lost the toss and were unsurprisingly asked to field on this very hot day. Good opening spells were provided by Paul Seldon and Lynden Spencer-Allen but despite numerous plays and misses from the opening bats no wickets were yielded and a large partnership built up on a fast track with a quick outfield. Steve Wood bowled very promisingly at first change extracting life and movement from the wicket but it was not until the arrival of Ken Cowan (1-57) and Steve Trounce (4-57) that wickets started to fall. Trounce in particular bowled an excellent spell and the batsmen were unsure how to play him. Vine finished on 234-7, which looked to be a gettable score.
However, the Knockers innings started badly with Paul Seldon removed in the first over. Stuart Seldon and Paul Styles then settled into a partnership and were making inroads until Seldon was caught behind with the score on 42. Styles then found support in the form of Steve Wood, who hit several powerful boundaries in his 26. Scott Landers also batted well for 16, putting on a partnership of nearly 50. However, once Styles was dismissed for 59, the writing was on the wall for Knockers. Paul Landers and Steve Trounce saw them through to the end of the 35 overs at 149-9 but by then any chance of victory was long gone.
