Winning Draw :: Played on Sunday 7th August 2005
Another enjoyable game for Knockers, who eventually settled for a winning draw when all three results looked possible at one stage. Knockers started slowly with Stuart Seldon and Tom Cobb but when no. 3 bat Lynden Spencer-Allen arrived at the crease things got going and the ball was despatched to all areas with the short boundaries coming into play. Seldon pushed on and was in the 90s when Spencer-Allen was dismissed but there followed a clatter of wickets including the luckless Boreham who had elected to play across a straight ball and was out plumb lbw. Ben Cobb got things going again with 5 big sixes in his 37, meanwhile Seldon had reached his ton and started scoring freely again, eventually reaching his highest score of 124 before being caught on the boundary. Dan Turner then struck some mighty blows to see Knockers through to the declaration at 237-7.
Knockers felt confident with this total, but with a much improved Ide Hill wicket and the early declaration, Ide Hill had a chance of stealing the game. Lynden Spencer-Allen struck early in the innings but a partnership was formed between Steve Lynch and P Sanders and the batsmen carried on comfortably. However the skipper stepped up to the mark and with a wide variety of deliveries managed to remove Lynch via his top edge. The catch was caught by Boreham, although Dan Turner was also trying to claim it and the relief was evident that the ball had stayed in and that Boreham was alive. Miller then proceeded to take two lbw's in two balls, given by the finger of Trounce. The hattrick ball did not live up to expectations but meanwhile the Darrys were working their way through and as we entered the final over Ide Hill were 217-8. The batsman though opted to block out for the draw, although eventually succuming to Miller on the final delivery. An enjoyable game and another positive result for Knockers.
