Maurice Holmes made a fantastic 6 wicket debut for the Knockers and prised out 6 Lemmings with biting off-spin (6 for 54). His work was excellently supported by veteran spin king Hugh Rumary (2 for 22). Hugh was also denied a third wicket by a member of the Cobb family, who shall remain nameless, dropping a sitter. Also Benn Cobb and Andy Darry toiled manfully with the ball but without any luck. Guthrie also claimed to be extracting large amounts of turn but this is definitely unconfirmed. The Dart also tried a new tactic of appealing as the ball left his hand - could have been interesting if the distracted batsman had actually managed to get himself out.
The visitors still posted a testing target of 197 on a slow wicket (Greany 41, Wood 30 , Hukins 35).
Knockers' response was initially promising, reaching 122 for 4 with a classy 57 from Ben Cobb and 29 from Paul Styles. In a probably an unique event Paul seemed to give himself out LBW which suggests it was plummer than the plumiest plum jam and perhaps even more so.
However, disaster [perhaps predictable] followed, the middle and lower orders collapsing albeit to absolutely brilliant bowling - Hukins (5 for 17) mainly a series of vicious in-swingers. So skipper for the day, Stuart Seldon, could only watch the sinking ship despite determined, and unbeaten, resistance from Andy Darry.
