Win :: Played on Sunday 31st May 2009
Knockers recorded a decent win against 8 man Lemmings in their annual fixture on Sunday. This was indeed the first time we have beaten them in about 5 attempts. Bowling well, we were able to restrict the opposition to 198 all out, after spirited late order spin bowling from Tom Cobb (3-12). The oppo were about 160-1 at one point, with L. Spencer-Allen, making his return from Copenhagen, guilty of a rather expensive drop early on. Paul Styles, Edward Darry Ken Cowan and skipper Guthrie Miller got amongst the wickets towards the end though and we were able to clear up the tail fairly quickly. Styles in particular teased and tormented their batsmen into submission. We then enjoyed a good tea after a short delay to allow Cookie and Ben to finish making the sandwiches!
In response, Knockers got off to a good start from Tom Watts (27) and the in form Tom Cobb (50). Tom's unfortunate dismissal, caught by his cousin William, drops his average below 150 for the first time this season! The runs continued to flow with contributions from the fired up Cook (12), with his new fitness regime reaping an early reward, as he quadrupled his aggregate for the season, and Seldon (29). Lynden Spencer-Allen, playing his first game of the season, also made a steady 29 to add to his earlier wicket. However, a little acceleration was needed and this was provided by Ben Cobb batting well for his 35. With the victory in sight, Ben holed out and with two overs to go things looked precarious once again, with all three results on the cards. The reliable veteran Ken Cowan though, marshalling the strike well, struck the winning blow with a lovely straight drive to win the game for Knockers by two wickets. Well played all.
