Rain on the Vine reduced this inaugural match against the Tri-Northerns to a 20/20 game. The Knockers were about 20 runs shy of putting up a competitive total but squeezing a match in at all made the day worthwhile as Paul Seldon top-scored with a 50.
Batting first, Knockers opened with Seldons Paul (53) and Stuart (35). The run rate was very healthy until the bowlers adjusted to conditions before heavy rain stopped play after 7 overs. The match resumed an hour and a half later and the covers revealed a springy track with a bit of skid. It was from this lift that Stuart Seldon got a large proportion of his runs through the slips before a skiddy delivery kept low and had him LBW.
Kyle Maguire (21) joined Paul Seldon as the latter reached fifty stroking the ball around the ground. Tri-North's quick then came into play and with Seldon departing caught in the covers the Knockers run-rate dipped. Seb Horner (7) played a brief but effective cameo before being stumped and Freddie Young (1no) had little time to make an impression as Maguire was stumped last ball with the Knockers total at 128 for 4.
A quick turn-around saw Tri-Northern bat themselves straight into the match, reaching half the score with only opener Ed Marsh troubling them as Paul Seldon took a looping catch. Ken Cowan opened at the other end and despite a vicious growl for an LBW appeal saw little reward for his efforts. Tom Sullivan's bowling was backed by the alert Seb Horner who ran and took an over-the-shoulder catch at mid-on; Added to Maguire's calm and accurate run-out and Seb Horner's well flighted rattle of the stumps the Knockers were starting to see Tri-North's tail. Freddie Young and then Dan Turner bowling off a short run-up had too few runs to defend as the opposition reached the total with three successive boundaries and two overs to spare.
