A very good win on a good pitch that had something in it for both bowlers and batsmen. 6 Knockers debuts on the day meant a changed and freshened up line up but the banter was good from the start and everyone gave it a good positive go.
The batting was opened by the familiar pairing of Paul and Stuart Seldon and both were comfortably into their stride, making an easy paced opening partnership of 70 or so. Charlie Adam followed in at 3, and showed real class in building his score of 77, hitting several sixes along the way. Unfortunately the rest of the Knockers batting line up failed to make much impact, with several good shots being played but wickets falling too regularly. We eventually scratched up to 196 all out.
In response we were confident with a good bowling line up and Dougie Bourne and Richard Calver were both quickly into their stride. Calver struck first and then Bourne, but Bidborough's opener hit the ball hard and kept up with the rate. Bourne eventually got him and we steadied the ship. Their middle order left hander though kept them in the game, scoring a big 50 to get them towards the score. Some accurate and persistent bowling though got us over the line, taking the final wicket right at the end.
Special mention to Freddie Young, who captained very well in his first game. He also bravely brought himself back on to bowl at the 10 year old and the girl at the end. The new Guthrie? Maybe he will "grow into" the role. Well done all.
